Happy New Year!

The Holiday's are officially over and it's time for something new!

I haven't worked on one quilt since July!  The only sewing I have done is a muslim for a pair of pants for my grandson.

I started rehabbing our sectional and need to do some redo.  I knew I was biting off a lot, but that's what I do!  We are moving into a house in a couple of weeks so I'll have the room I need to get this job done.

I'm going to start another blog to track my garment sewing.  I keep saying I'm going to do this and don't do it.  Time for action!

I still have too many unfinished quilting projects and a few quilt kits to get done....someday.  :)

Happy New Year!  May 2014 bring all that you desire!

This blog has been pretty quiet lately.  It's time to get the sewing area cleaned up and organized.  I have a new storage cabinet and everything is completely torn apart.  Quite overwhelming, but I'm getting there.  I have a couple of quick projects that I made and will post pictures soon.

I wish the weather behaved like it was September!  I haven't been able to open any windows for a few days....too hot!

Happy 4th of July!

I actually just completed a quilt for the Quilts for Kids organization that is red, white and blue!  This was one of those instant gratification projects as it is a very simple pattern and machine quilted.  My grandson, who loves the "blankets" I make for him is my helper with the photo:

Somewhat red, white and blue :)
I told him I would dedicate time every day to get the current quilt I'm piecing, for him, and get it done in time for winter.  He was happy.

I had an extra 4-patch that I couldn't use in the top, so I stitched the label to it, cut it down and hand appliqued it to the back.

Our heat wave has subsided, finally!  We are back to normal temperatures.  We'll be getting together with family tomorrow for some pool time and barbecue.

Enjoy your day and don't forget to be extra grateful for our Independence!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I haven't been doing much sewing since finishing the Crazy Summer project.  We are experiencing a heat wave out here in the West so staying in and hand stitching some self binding.

This little quilt is for the Quilts for Kids organization.

I should have refreshed my memory on cutting for self binding before I cut it 1/2 inch where I probably should have cut it an inch.  The finished binding is 1/4 inch.  I have better control over it by hand stitching it down first then I'll sew a zig zag stitch to further secure it as this is what the organization recommends since the quilts are laundered frequently.  It's turning out just fine and I don't mind that I need to take an extra step in hand sewing.

Slow Sunday Stitching

A after waking up this morning, I started some hand stitching on My Crazy Summer stitchery. We went out for a little while this afternoon and am settled in to continue this evening. I'm addicted to this little project.

I've enjoyed the blog hop at Celebrate Hand Quilting. Looking at all the beautiful hand quilting inspires me to get my grandsons flannel quilt pieced and ready to hand quilt!

Head over to Kathy's Quilts to see the fabulous hand work that's happening!

Have a wonderful week!

Happy Mother's Day!

We're going to have a fun morning taking our grandson to Disneyland!  This afternoon, I'm going to do some hand stitching on these two little projects:

This cute little bear is block one of Vintage Toy Box BOM from Shabby Fabrics.  What allured me to this BOM was that each piece is already glued and laser cut.  All I have to do is place the pieces on the background fabric, iron and stitch!  Stitching through fusible web can be difficult in the areas that two pieces come together, but it's quick!  Jennifer also included a separate pattern for each block for needle turn applique!  When my grandson saw the block, he said he wanted it :).  I told him it will be a wall hanging and we can hang it in his room.  He's excited!!

After I finish the stitching on the bear block, I'll work on "My Crazy Summer" stitchery:

Hard to get the right color saturation on a cloudy day!

Some slow stitching will be the order of the afternoon after a busy morning at Disneyland!  Linking up with Kathy's Quilts!

I hope everyone has a beautiful Mother's Day!!
